A rant

pops, duanes is waaay over any of our heads about water quality standards. if he uses a certain kind of test strips I am 100% sure they are trustworthy.
only question is exactly which products and where to buy at affordable price.

well alrighty then, like to know also, buy them and put them to the test. no offence to any one, but seeing is be-leaving. :)

you have one free pass for obviously not being familiar with duane or his work.

you evidently feel strongly about the persons knowledge, I am not familiar and this is the internet, going to take testing against what i know works now before changing what I do now. Other wise i would be cycling my tanks with urine. :nilly:

I think that urine cycling thing has been done. haha

it has, just point being just because you herd on the internet is no reason not to test against what you know works, and works well. no matter the source.

When working as a chemist I would bring in a sample every morning and titrate for alkalinity, and other parameters. I have log books filled with data and kept on my tanks to watch trends.
Over the years test strips have become available that are accurate enough for our purpose.
Fischer Scientific has a group of test strips I became familiar with in the lab for everything from alkalinity to nitrate and between.
Many strips out there may be produced with varying degrees of accuracy, (and by the same company) but since Fischer Sci was considered accurate enough for drinking water testing, and approved by the agencies I reported to, I still like to use them. ...........................................................................

duane is a chemist whose career was spent in water testing facilities. had testing equipment up the ying-yang.
he is not exactly a skid row wannabe moonshine maker.
but I understand your concern.

I work at a large casino in the cascade foot hills in the facility department. grounds manager. we run our own wells, Fridays and Saturdays water usage around 86,000,00 gallons. we have to do water tests on the water and treatment ourselves and the test results for the state. our water guy is building a kio pond and knows jack about a fresh water home aquarium. it is a whole different animal. he knows how to keep water clean and chems needed, he knows nothing about running a closed environment to support life. Ya, he likes his strips to. no offence to him.

do not get me wrong i am sure he knows about water quality, our guy does to, he is also the water quality guy for the city of north bend. He can rattle off about the mettles and all that stuff. Ask him about the nitrate cycle and seeded tank and its a blank face. he in the buss of killen that stuff not cultivating it.

duanes tank maintenance, the care he puts into it all is at the very top of the most exemplary on forum too. his tanks are like little eco-systems in balance.
you should see his fractionator bubbling on vid someday.
are you playing a mean drunk tonight? :nilly:
