But the temple devoters don't really know anything about the hobby. The filtration system was turned off and the water in the sump was really horrible. mosquito breeding in the sump, out in the main pond isn't a problem as the fish munch on the larves. There is also a very thick oily slick in the sump surface. Maybe I would help out with cleaning and maintaining the pond someday. If i have the time and they let me.

Agree but you can see why they have to do it. Those fishes [except the kois] are not brought by the temple. Irresponsible fishkeepers dump them there when the fish grow too big for their tank. Look at the first picture, the red dab on its left is a blood parrot. The Channa can easily swallow the bp whole anytime.
