A few of you may know that I moved out of the apartment and into a house and bought a swimming pool for my fish to live in for a few weeks. Well last night I put the remainder of the fish in the tank, some in the 265 and some in the 220.
I walk in the house today, soon as I walked in I smelled death. I had so many different scenarios running through my head... As I walked closer to the basement stairs the smell was stronger and stronger as I slowly walked down the stairs. Not wanting to look around the corner..I did and my worst fears hit me....all but 2 fish were dead in the 220. I walked around the back and 2 of my biggest Eclipse Cats had jumped out and my new GORGEOUS Red Devil tried to escape as well but didn't make it to the floor but instead on top of the glass top.
Come to find out, the Eheim built in heater was at 96.6 degrees and by the time I ended the video it was 96.8. I bet that water was well over 100 degrees, it was extremely hot.
I had all three of these filters on the pool with no issues, I simply moved them to the tanks. I had the temp on the Eheim as low as it will go, when you go that low it reads OFF. I never used the heaters on them. I also had a 500 watt heater but it was set to around 70 degrees.
I just cant imagine what these fish went through and how long they all were suffering, trying to escape by jumping out of the tank. Make me sick. I was so excited last night when I got the tanks setup, just temporary till the rest of my tanks got here, I told myself I wanted to stay the night, but talked myself out of it and said they will be fine. So I took a video which you can see in this thread right before I left and this would be the last time I seen them alive... http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?601436-Fish-Move-Apt-to-House
I lost all but 2 of my Polleni's, which I had 6 of...my male RTM...male Zonatus that bred with the Fenestratus, all but one of my Geo's, I now have two Eclipse cats left out of 13, luckily I didn't move the Tire Track, I can't even think about it anymore..... I filled up a 5 gallon bucket of fish...hardest thing I've ever had to do since I've kept fish.
I'm uploading the video now and will post in the morning...
I took these two pics at the start of my GF and I removing the fish, smell was so bad I had a hard time standing there removing them, gagging....
