AAAHHHH THIS IS AWESOME. MORE PEOPLE THAT KEEP BASS!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sweet!!

Yeah my bass are doing great. I didn't think the PH would matter to much because they still have great color and are eating. They don't look stressed so I'm all good for now.

To tell you the truth I expected to lose two of the fish early thats why I started with 4. But they've all done so good. Now I'm all attached and dont want to get rid of any. But for the better of all I will soon. Plus even though they are about 2", 2", 3" and 4" they eat like savages. The smallies are more aggressive and eat more then the lmb. They are very cool.

The other day my smallie ate 3 feeders that were all just under an inch... THREE Thats ultimately more fish then he has. (I didn't intend on that he just kept snatching them up)

Yeah the tank is pretty cold now and stays that way cause its downstairs. I pretty much always keep the lights off unless I'm watching them or feeding them for a friend.

Plus I have like plants and wood on one side, for the LMB, and rocks on one side for the smallies. Trying to match there habitat.

They are my favorite fish I've ever kept.

Well, I had planned on releasing them back into the lake. I've read the controversies on these posts so I'm not exactly sure at this point.

My brother in law is thinking about getting a 150 gallon and keeping bass so they will go to him if he gets that set up soon.

If that doesn't work out I'll probably release them back into the lake. They have not been kept with any other fish so I'm sure they'd be fine.

Yea deffinatly don't release them back into the lake. That is very bad and illegal. Fry em up or give them away. I would just make a pond for them though. You can even do an outdoor pond which is a perk.

Yeah a pond is really what I want to do but I just don't quite have the funds to build that at this point.

I am looking to see if I can make a trade for a larger tank.

Either way I'll have a tasty treat (kinda) or find them a new home.

Another question. Why is it bad to re release them into the same lake if I've never kept any other fish with them, Just the bass? (forget the fact that its illegal, just what are the negative effects?)

Okay I wont release them. Although I don't think that its really that big of a deal. I personally believe that with all the stocking and fishing and bait and littler and beer and all the crap the falls into these lakes if you put a few fish back into the lake its really not going to matter. I think nature is stronger then that.

I 100% agree with NEVER releasing non native fish or fish that have been bread in an aquarium, or even if you keep different species of fish with natives, That makes sense to me. But to think releasing a couple of bass i've had for 2 months back into the exact lake and dock I got them from is going to hurt anything, i think is goofy.

I wont do it just incase I'm wrong. Its better to sacrifice one fish if there is even a possibility of hurting a lake full of them. Thats the logic I'll use.

Thanks for the article it was helpful.

all in all I'd rather error on the side thats gonna hurt the least. So no releasing for me.

Oh yeah plus its illegal!!! :) That should be enough reason in itself.

You can always try to get them on koi pellets and toss him in a pond :) I been tring but he just doesnt want the koi stuff...

I have a lm and a small that I caught this summer, they are both around 8-10" at this point, but when I caught them they were about 3". The lm is definately more aggressive, and chases the sm, but it never does any damage. They both eat Hikari gold pellets, which saves alot os time and money (I dont have to constantly be buying or catching minnows) and sometimes I feed them baby crawdads, and they seem to really like them to. Ill post some pics later if I get the time!

I'll take it!! I don't seem to be able to catch any bass around here except for that one fry that my father fried by accident along with those yellow perch...
