Abnormal Silver Aro (Sick?)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
After all you've done so far I think I would try to get him strong by eating well. I had a similar issue with mine and I went and bought small crickets and it got him eating and gaining strength. I kept him on crickets until he was able to eat silversides. Good luck!

Haven't tried crickets yet. Am thinking of picking some small ones up on the way home tomorrow. Heard of letting them eat carrots too to get some good nutrients into my fish. I'll see what I can do.

Totroc3: Took your advice and got some crickets. He swims around and looks at them but doesn't even nudge it/taste it. Going to leave the room for a bit to see what happens. Anyone else had issues with getting their arowana to eat live? He LOVES freeze dried krill tail and blood worms, but nothing live.

if he eats freeze dried krill then try some food sticks. Maybe he'll eat some pellets for ya...then you'd be set and he'd get fat and healthy quick.

He's not big on the Hikari carnivore sticks yet but just started taking crickets yesterday. He'd hold them in his mouth for a second, drop them, then after they circled back from the current he'd hit them hard! Between him and my little tiger O I've gone through 20 crickets in 3 days. :) They're definitely gonna be big and strong!

This thread is a good read. Good job looking after your aro.

One suggestion: Use crickets only to entice a fish to eat but otherwise they are nutritionally inferior to almost anything else typically fed to aros. Get him on pellets while he's young because it could a significant challenge getting him off live and onto pellets further down the road. Get him used to pellets as a staple with live offered occasionally as a treat.
