about flower ray

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo

Unfortunately this is not always the case with Flowers. I had my flower in captivity for over 2 years. did real well and ate like a champ. He was pretty aggressive especially at feeding time. One day stuff started going down hill and stopped eating died the next day. I think it may be related to hard water, high GH levels? I run drips systems on all my tanks, and have well water. I have kept many other species and had only a couple of deaths in 5+ years of ray keeping, with flower being the only loss of a long term ray. I cant explain it, but i think the old story of being kept in species only tank really does apply with these, i should have listened. I also said the same thing as exoticfishguy, that mine is doing fine with other rays..... but one day is all it takes.

Well I speak from experience and they are not even close to the same. At first glimpse of one in your tank youl realize why.

Mine were all super aggressive and still die very easy . They are not a hardy species . They do well after they adjusted to captivity yes but after that they are not like others. Don't be fooled it might cost you

As mentioned in another thread there is not many keepers of flowers and tigers on this forum with 3 year+ rays in captivity. I've read every post on here from the beggining and there has been alot these rays go to different keepers but nobody seems to be perking up with any over 3+ years. Once something bothers these rays the can die within days. These rays are nothing like a motoro or leo which can go through hell and back with no apparent signs of it dying they can and will die for most ray keepers in under 3 years.

All this stuff about fish mysteriously dying and all these stupid theories hold no water with me...the reality is that nobody holds the keys to life or death.

I just feel fortunate that I am lucky enough to acquire this exotic stuff and that I'm able to enjoy keeping them.

So if you really want one of these rays, don't listen to the paranoid freaks on here and
go get one and enjoy it for as long as you can!

Life's too short...

Truth is, if your not an experienced ray keeper, thats bad advise. Flowers come in by the boat load and I would say 98% of them dont make it...just the sad truth. Your welcome to try one out, but they are not cheap. If you do, I highly recommend sectioning off one side of the tank so it can get eating well with little stress. Keep it seperated till it puts on some weight. Good luck.

If you can't afford to lose it, you shouldn't ever consider buying one...just like buying cars, real estate, investing in the stock market, etc...if you're that financially strapped, I'd recommend you stop spending on hobbies and start getting your finances in order.
