About to give up. Are these spots anything?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Did you notice the same 'flashing' before you treated for Ich?

You mentioned your incoming water is soft, crazy soft so what test kit are you using? What are the actual test results for hardness (GH) and alkalinity (KH)?

pH of the incoming water may read one value but after the water off gases for 24 hours it may read a different value so try testing both ways.

In my post I put that I was using the API test kit and it was so low as soon as I dropped the second drop in( first one to make the Color change it changed dont recall what the value is but I can goggle that if it is needed. But as low as the test would read

Thanks, I assumed you were using the GH kit but I'm used to seeing the values so your 2 drops of reagent = 2 degrees of hardness or 35.8 ppm.

Do you not test alkalinity (KH)?

The use of Cichlid Salt will also change your KH and pH so you may want to watch the parameters of all 3 tests.

Yes I know I was reading when that is low you can have ph swings. The cichiled sand should help with that. I also have 40 pounds of crushed coral that I was debating on throwing in the tank
