With the basket you will be able to add sponges or filter floss or any number of things.

thanks, i think that would be so much easier than adding floss to a canister. I hate messing with those. I think I will put almost all biological in the canisters and suppliment the mechanical with a 110

Cleaning the mechanical will be so much easier on the 110. I hate breaking down the Fx5 to clean the filter floss. You will also be able to add carbon and other things to the 110. Just use a fine filter bag and add whatever you want. Your options will be endless.

Actually there is only 4" of the filter behind the tank. You'll need more space to move the filter to level it.

On the 110 that I put in I left out the carbon and added a package of the bio max... this is in addition to the one that it came with... I thnk that is a great combo as the top of the bio sticks out of the water a little... it just feels right...

make sure that there is enough clearance so that the filter box does not actually TOUCH your wall.

the lids on these filters are not a water tight seal and sometimes you get condensation on the inside of the filter lid that can collect on the inside of the filter lid. because it is not a water tight seal, if that part of the lid is touching the wall you can get water on the wall at that point

my ex GF had an AC110 touching the wall and it left a water mark over time at the point where the lid was touching the wall..

just a heads up so the same thing doesn't happen to you

I use AC-110s. Give yourself at least six inches of wall to tank clearance for maintenance.

2 sponges and a layer of filter floss in between them will work great. That's what I have in an AC50 anyway; clean the floss often though, or it will cut the flow significantly when it gets really dirty. In my AC110, I just use the sponge and biomax that it came with, but I also use a sheet of filter floss which covers the top of the media and goes down over the waterfall part, so it silences the water outflow and works good for mech filtration.

I just checked mine, I have 5 inches between the tank rim and the wall. The filter takes up about 4.5 inches. A large powerhead with a prefilter works good for mechanical filtration as well and is also cheaper.

I went ahead and ordered a 110 from fosters and smith, I thought about the power head but I dont like the looks of a big sponge. I also need the added turnover. I figure my eheim 2180, filstar xp3, ehiem ecco and ac 110 should give me enough. These fronts I have are very messy:nilly:
