got it installed and running with about 1/4 inch to spare

Anyone have trouble with the lid rattling? I cant tell if it is a combo of that and the impellar. Will it get better over time,,semms to have gotten worse in the last 24 hrs

Yes, my lid does rattle. I find that if I just rest it on top of the filter it rattles less. Mine also makes the grinding noise from the impeller. Make sure you aren't picking up any sand, if that is your substrate. It will have good days and bad days as far as the noise level goes. Sometimes I can reach in and lift the intake tube away from the impeller and when it seats again the noise level is reduced.

yeah im doing that now, tried setting something on top and that slightly reduced it. Other than that it is doing a great job polishing.

Mine is running very quietly right now. I think when you get a little bit of slime coating on the impeller it tends to run quieter. I've noticed that when I clean the impeller mine will run a little noisey at first and then quiet down.

yes, I have noticed that same thing. Just a slight hum now, I also dont think I had it quite level enough. I tweaked it a bit more and it is much better.
