The photo is of a Whisper 5-15 on the same tank as an AC30. As you can see, they take up the same amount of space, yet the AC is rated for much more bio-load. That is because you can pack it full of what ever bio media you wish, but the whisper just uses cartridges and a small spongy biofilter. There is much more area for bacteria to grow on the AC, and it has a much higher flow rate. The difference is clear. Get your keister out of Walmart, and get an AC filter.

Almost anything is better than a whisper. AC's are some of the best HOBs hands down! Thanks Ewurm.

The ratings on Whisper filters are for seriously understocked tanks. I would use a 5-15 on a ten with a couple tetras, thats about it.

....or by doing a price match at Petsmart. I just picked up a couple more. I just had to modify one to fit on my 37 gallon tank. Apparently, it wasn't made for tanks that small with a center brace, but I made it work.

Kinda funny i used to hate them aways swore by canisters till i ran a half dozen 10gs and noticed that the ac's did a great job of controlling parimitors and polished the water perfectly
