AC's and sand DO NOT mix. You get even the smallest amount of sand in them and they're shot. The sand makes grooves in the impellers, which causes the grinding noise. My penguins and whispers are much more forgiving when it comes to sand. AC's are the best HOB out there though.
I couldn't see what I was looking for...how far your intake is above the sand. If you have all the extension tubes on the intake, you may want to try removing one...getting your inlet off the sand.
Also, when you vac, you should shut down your filter...or what I do is simply pull the intake. This way it quits pulling water, but continues to circulate inside the filter housing. I flush out the intake tubes every water change.
so its still loud as hell im about to just unplug it so i can sleep in my room instead of my couch but thanks CLDarnell and i usually never vac i just get a net and scoop the poop and sand and just shake out the sand but i make sure it doesnt get near the filter and im gonna go to my local FS and explain it to them and i sent hagen an email but im just thinking about selling my whole set up.....
i cant even return it i dont have any receipts and cant even remember where i order the p.o.s from so i blew $110 on a poor excuse for a good filter just my luck.........
Man you paid way too much for that. Didn't you save any of the emails from the buisness? Next time save those emails till after you have had the product for awhile. Wait for Hagen and hopefully they can help. They did help me one time. I had a bad U tube and they sent me a new one for free. Good Luck. And for future reference you shouldn't pay more than 70 bucks for a new ac110.
well actually it was $75 or 80 but i got 2 day shipping and i just remembered i found it on amazon so i figured out where i ordered it from so ill give them a call when i get home from school and ill probably switch too gravel even though i dont feel like comepletely re-doing my tank
