AC110 Super Loud Annoying Noise

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You should pick up a sponge filter today and hook it into your air line. You can get one for under $10. I would run sponge filters and shut down the AC until you get it working. Squeeze out and rinse the media into your water before taking it down completely though. You may want to consider using sponge filters full time since you've had so many issues with mechanical filters.

See clockwork's sticked write up on sponge filters in the Filtration sub forum.

Went to my local FS and they checked it out and figured it was the impeller that went so i bought a new impeller and now its purring :) lol. But should i save myself another headache and get rid of the sand and get gravel? or half sand half gravel? Im sooo happy its fixed tho!

I would go with the gravel

Thats awesome! Im glad it worked out for you. I think mine was just to far gone. I replaced the impeller and it may have gotten worse. I think I messed up the inside of the motor with the sand.

If the sand is fine, I would ditch it. go with pool filter sand or gravel. Or you can come over to the dark side and go bare bottom. Although I don't remember if you had plants or not....

yeah ill probably just end up going back to gravel

Do you have the shaft pushed down all the way into the housing? Haven't read the whole thread, but I sometimes accidentally hit it and it gets popped up and doesn't work correctly afterwards.

Any updates Jon?
