the impeller went i bought a new impeller the really loud grinding went away but im getting rid of the sand and getting gravel and im probably gonna buy a new motor for the filter so its basically brand new

ill send u a messge whenever i get this done lol or at least the gravel....

I have ACs on 3 tanks with sand and never have had a problem. I have had the problem where the impeller does not sit all the way down in the well and it makes a grinding noise then but it is easily fixed.

Any filter with a magnetic impeller will make that grinding noise if it gets debris in the impeller area. My magnum 350 sometimes will get a tiny piece of corbon stuck in there and make a heck of a racket. Now I am very careful to make sure nothing gets in there when I am putting it back together.

You also can use a small amount of vaseline on the side of the magnet so that it spins freely until the slime builds up on it again. It will not hurt the fish and will make the impeller spin quietly.

That's awesome! :)

Most likely your motor is fine since it's sealed and self contained. I would try to talk you out of switching your substrate...but with the troubles you have had with filters, I know already I would lose that argument lol :)

Good luck bro, take care!

Just fit a pre-filter onto the intake of the AC110
