Acclimating Fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have been told to float the bag with the lights off, in my experiences it seems to make the fish a little less jittery. Thus making acclimation a little "easier"

Wow, I can't believe it's the same person. He must have changed alot. I do know that he breeds alot of his own fish like guppies and angelfish and the quality of the fish are pretty good. He used to help anyone with advice and like I said, he would give you his own homemade drip system whenever you bought something from him, The Doctor

The ironic thing is that even when he showed me how to use the drip system, I never did. I did it like always. Float for 30 mins, slowly ease the fish out. Never had any problems. Can someone tell me actually why the drip system is used. If it's to make the water in the bag the same temperature as the tank, what's wrong with floating it. The way he told me to use the drip system was to get a plastic container and pour the water and fish in it. Then get something like a tv stand and put the container on it. Then he would give me one of those plastic beer cups from ball games and drill a hole on the side near the bottom get some tank water and attach this little plastic straw thing so the water from the cup would slowly drip into the plastic container. By the time the drip is done, the temperature in the plastic cup would,ve changed so the water temperature in the container wouldn't be the same as the tank anyways. Some one give me a reason to drip, The Doctor.

I new a guy like that in a store in Florida, just got off on being rude and showing his superiority over the customers knowledge. He new a lot but I don't know why they kept him he drove off a lot of business.

I try to remember to ask the store what their water parameters are, particularly with salt water. I float all my bags as soon as I get home to equalize temperature. With fresh water I then normally net the fish out and into the tank. With saltwater and sensitive fresh water fish, after floating the bag, I then drip acclimate them. I use a water pitcher that the bag will stand up in then I put that in a bucket on the floor. I then run a piece of air line from the tank to the bag and start a siphon. I use a hemostat on the air line to control drip rate. I don't have an exact time I run this, depends on how the fish is acting and my level of patience. Normally the drip runs for thirty min. to an hour. I will transfer to the bucket if bag fills up to fast. When done dripping I net it and into the tank.

I'm just totally disgusted that he's turned into an ***
