I got home yesterday after work to find that my ACF was lying on his back under water - presumably dead. I watched for another moment as he tried to 'do a sit up' and failed. He was flailing his front arms but unable to move his rear legs. I pulled him up to the surface and he began breathing very hard, as I'm sure he hadn't been able to breath for quite some time. I searched online for possible causes/cures of whatever ails him but all I could find were suppositions and guesses. Some people said they were prone to strokes and seizures, which could potentially cause dysfunction of his rear legs.

If anyone has had any experience with this or has any advice, please post it.

Also, and I hate to ask this... but what is the best way to euthanize my frog? I really don't want to, but I can't care for him if he is paralyzed for the rest of his life.

Thank you.

Sorry to here about your ACF. I don't know what could be wrong with it. Perhaps it has a virus or a stroke like you mentioned. I'm not sure what the most painless way of euthanizing it but I did see a show about the eradication of cane toads in Australia. They just stuck them in a bag and placed them in a freezer. Since they're cold blooded their heart rates got slower and slower till they stopped.

Dont eutanize as of yet. Is there any possibility that your frog has eated something that is stuck in its intestinal track? like a small peble or a hard to digest food like mealworms? Or is it any possibility that your having a amonia or another nitrogen product spike in your aquarium? that is another thing that can cause that simptons. Put as of yet your frog in a very shallow, warm and clean tank and change the water like 3 times a day. Try to give him a week of that. If he comes around good. If not :( well... you already know what to do...
