I have heard literally for years that carbon will leach most all of the impurities it initially soaks up back into the tank over time thus neccesitating a fairly frequent change. If your filtration system is less than optimium and you do only minimum water changes this will be far more apparent than if you have a well designed, efficient system and you do frequent water changes. I don't use carbon or any other chemicals in any of my ponds or tanks. I just don't see the need. I change 25% weekly in the tanks and bi-weekly in the ponds.
