Sumps are the BEST bang for your buck filtration out there man. There's 75 gallon tanks (tank only, no lid, stand, or anything else) for $50 or less all day every day. You just have to know where to look. Then you find a glass cutter and have some 1/4 inch plate glass (non tempered) cut, which is SUPER cheap. I think my last sump (55 gallon sump) was $30 for all of the glass baffles, and the 75 gallon was something like $60 for all of the glass pieces. Then you silicone the pieces in with GE silicone 1.

For a big tank, I'll never do another type of filtration. Filter socks are SO easy to just take out and throw in the washing machine, and that's ALL the maintenence there is. The only other thing I would possibly look at would be a bead filter if I had the money.

And stock was cheap for the 240 gallon. $15 for a single male Dovii. That's why I didn't add it in. Plus, it'll be driftwood and river stones for the decor.....So pretty close to free.

I know, I would love a sump. But the pump looks like it would cost me £100 + & then the tank abnd the glass inserts and the media and the piping and then lots of time to get it all ready, not to mention the fact that I have over 1 ton of tank in my bedroom already (1st floor) so a sump would not help the weight issues at all :S ill get one in the future though, theyr awesome!

Too much to even think about! In the past 8 months we've gone from 2 smallish tanks (20 gallon and 55 gallon) to 8 tanks (10, 20, 40, 55, 55, 60, 150, 220) and have no thoughts of stopping any time soon...
