So I'm interested in adding a crenicichla to my 125 "SA community" tank. Current stock is 6 geophagus sp redhead tapajo, 3 severums (one red, one notatus and one something...) as well as 6 Denison barbs and a bristlenose pleco. Any recommendations on species? LFS has regani, sveni and cyclostoma ...

Nice. How big are they? Guy at the store said they'd get about 9"? Also what are they with?

Crenicichla usually aren't aggressive to fish, they cant eat except other Crenicichla.
C. regani and cyclostoma max size is 6", they cant eat your fish. But regani female is small, around 3", wont Heros harm her? Geophagus are OK, I had this combination.

Sveni can be 10" long, but if your fish are longer than 6", even sveni should be OK.

Any other species I should be on the look out for that would be compatible with the tank and have nice color/patterning? Don't want to just get what's available and regret not holding out later...

Dwarfs:
Crenicichla notophthalmus
Crenicichla wallacei
Crenicichla regani
Crenicichla cyclostoma

Others:
Crenicichla sp. 'Inirida'
Crenicichla sveni
Crenicichla lepidota
Crenicichla geayi
Crenicichla sp. "Belly Crawler"
+ other Crenicichlas with male maximum length up to 10"

Dwarfs for sure wont harm your fish . Others might harm denisoni barbs, if you have bad luck on fish. Each fish behave slightly different.

Female is about 7" and male is 8". But the female is fatter than the male. They live with a group of silver dollars some plecos 3 Raphael catfish some hrp's a bichir , and an umbee. The umbee is gonna be moved though he just hit seven inches and he's angry. Otherwise the pike's get along with their tank mates, but can't stand each other.

Planning on picking up a cyclostoma on Sunday ^.^. Guy at the store was saying that females have more color... Any conformation on this?

Pick up a pair! Crenicichla are best kept in pair. If you have just 1 fish, you cant see their nice behaviour. They like to show off to each other.

Would a pair be ok in a 125 with 3 severums and 6 geos?
