Adding on to my pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That red clay looks like Georgia....

Did yo use any underlayment in the new pond, besides newspaper?

i know that red clay was a pain though let me tell you. But it is jersey in somerset county. I used lots of newspaper and in some of the areas where there is roots i used this pond pad thing. It comes in a roll. I added more rocks. I just can use some advice on the water fall build. Plus im adding a bridge to be able to make it across the pond instead of going around.

What kind of filter are you going to use?

Are you going to have a skimmer?

I have a box filter attached to a strong pump at the bottom of my pond arround 3 feet deep. Then i have the water fall filter with lots of bio balls and foam pads of all different kinds. Then to top it all off i have a uv filter running through another pump. I also have a skimmer to keep out the leaves and extra food on top of the surface. i was wondering if anyone had any ideas for my waterfall.

I am wondering what else should i add to the pond. i have about 12 koi. They are all different size. the largest are about 7 inches and the smallest about 2-3 inches.
The pond size is around 3000 gallons. the deepest part is more then three feet.

Do you think a pleco would be good.
I would like to add something out of the ordinary if anyone has any good ideas

I guess it depends on how deep and the coldest temp....I have read that people have them in ponds with temps as low as 40. The only thing Im confident in, is that Im waking up tomorrow, and then again, I may still be wrong, lol.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Sometimes I get to working and forget. I've made some progress since I last posted on here. I dug the pond last Saturday. There is still lots of work to do. But the bulk of it is done.

The last 3 pictures are of the new area. The hose for the pump needs to be moved up against the wall and we still have to address where the plants will be going. The ones on the big disk in the middle are just there for now. I am also planning on hiding my second small filter inside the windmill.

Under the bridge will be lined with one layer of rocks, then I'll be putting the sucker pipe from the main filter in there, then another 2 layers of rocks. I'm hoping that a lot of waste will gather there and be sucked out when I turn that part of the filter on.
