Adding Oscars?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
With your current stocking, as the fish get larger, you will have to do more than 50% water changes a week to maintain less than 20ppm nitrates. Uaru get HITH/LLE much easier than oscars in less than ideal water conditions. Adding more filtration won’t reduce the nitrates or keep the total dissolved solid levels no higher than 50ppm out of tap. Let the fish reach adulthood (2-3 years). I’m sure you will have to shuffle things around.

Yeah. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Busy tanks look cool and all but you're definitely at what seems like cramped space for fish territory real estate. Great looking tanks though, what kind of light on the 75?

i love the tank but others are right i have two oscars in a 125g with two big canisters and doing 50%+ water changes weekly and just with those two fish its somtimes hard to keep stable nitrates also i might get hate for this but i dont think oscars live up to the hype people give them sure they are cool fish and really personable but no more than any other big cichlid imo my 4" JD is more persoanable than my 9-10" oscars i know it comes down to individual fish but still.

not putting down oscars they are great fish especialy during feeding

To each their own. I had a huge Festivum that was full of personality. I haven't kept Oscars in over 20 years. I had a bare 100 gallon with an old enheim canister filter. 2 tiger oscars and 2 Asian red tail cats. I would feed them feeder crayfish and crickets I found around the house. They were fun. I traded them in to my LFS when I moved to a small apartment and couldn't set the tank.

they are deffinetly cool fish i have fun letting mine chase my hand around the tank and they are so fun to feed but its a pain do do maintenance on their tank bc they always bite and ram my hand and arm but that just makes me like them more they are definitely great fish but i think the hype people give them often leads to begginers getting them which can be great iffff they have a 75g+ aquarium witch most dont

I agree with the rest .nice looking tanks your over stocked . Some of your fish now will get some size to them as adults. Oscars grow fast. About 8 -12" the first year if kept healthy and some room to grow . Some will claim all 125gls.to themselves and other's are gentle giants. IMO. Oscars need the room and care like P. Bass.
And super clean warm black water .
