Adding soil to established tank with dolphin fish (mormyrid)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can't beleive your dolphin is out and about, most say that theirs are inactive

they are unbelievably active all day and both are never timid. when I brought them home they were already playing in the bag. most fish are pale and sitting at the bottom. these two numskulls were swimming around happy as clams. when I had them in the big orange 5 gallon bucket while I aquascaped, they were scared for a moment then started swimming around like it was a game. when I was grabbing the snails, they came over are started investigating my hand touching it up and down with their little noses. when I go to catch them, they go into the net themselves! they are pretty much the coolest fish I've ever kept

I thought u were using potting soil of some kind, from the pix i see it's more like a planting substrate. There shouldn't be any problems with this, the tank looks great and so do the inhabitants.

thanks! it said soil on the bag, but it's a strange newish product and most of it was in a different language that's why I was so confused with how to use it. it's not as rich as ada so it won't be as good for more difficult plants like ones with red, but for my plans, it was perfect. I'm happy with it so far, but really glad I listened to you guys about removing the fishbecause holy cow it was murkey

where did you get those guys from?!

I had them on special order at my work (before I even worked there) for over a year. my boss never saw them before until one day, there was a tank simply labeled "dolphin fish" at the wholesaler. it was insanely perfect because I had just became engaged and it was my first day back. talk about the best week ever! I had come across only 2 dolphins before. one was $90 not including shipping and the other was $65 with shipping and my hesitation resulted in being too late. I've asked around everywhere, including jeff rapps. either nobody gets them, or they choose not to get them due to their difficulty in care.
