Adjustment period? (new L264)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No haven't seen it eat yet, but seems to be doing fine. Its started to explore a bit more (have seen it multiple times in 3 different cave areas with lights on). Still haven't seen it on the right half of the tank though....but the best caves are on the left half (for now) so thats expected. It does still hidden though.

Each night when I turn the lights out and go to bed, I add a small mix of sinking hikari carnivore pellets / shrimp pellets / spirulina wafers...impossible to tell if the pleco or silver dollars are getting them, or even the LSN. and every other night or so ive added a little frozen krill to the mix.

So, haven't seen it eat but I stopped worrying about it :headbang2

Goood to hear. Dont be surprised if it doesnt come out with the lights on. I have a set of lunar lights that I turn on after I shut the strip light off and it gives you a chance to see your more nocturnal plecos. I would highly suggest a set for those with leporacanthicus and psuedacanthicus species. I shut my strip light off a little early every day so I can watch my plecos in the evening. But anyway, if it's still kickin' and movin' around I would say he's gonna do OK!

Thanks, sounds like a good idea...I might have to do that when I get a couple more plecos. Leaning towards a L200 green phantom + open to suggestions for the 3rd and last pleco (6ft 125g tank).

Being that you have a leporacanthicus in there already I would stick with other more carnivorous plecos. You could run into dietary issues with an L-200 because it should have very little protien. Couple suggestions: L-114, L-091,L029. The only issue with leporacanthicus and psuedacanthicus is they can be very territorial, but in a 6ft. tank you should be able to give them enough space.

Yeahhh I thought that might be a problem...if thats the case I could pick up an L14 and L114 :) assuming they're still in stock next month...

I would say The 264,14 and 114 would work in the 125. all of them get 10" or bigger, the more I think about it the more I could see you having to get rid of either the 114 or 14 in the long run. Also be aware that L-114 can be known to be REALLY territorial to the point of killing other plecos. I have one at 11" and one at 3.5" that have other pleco tankmates without a problem though.

Do the L14 and L114s constantly hide when lights are on? One of the reasons I was leaning toward an L200 was that I read its fairly active...but the diet issue will be too big to ignore :( So looks like I'll be getting 1 (or 2) carnivore plecos...and my choices boil down to whatever snookn21 (MFK community vendor, can't beat $15 shipping!) has in stock next month when I get paid. Are there any carnivore plecos that are active when lights are on? Or do they all just pretty much find a place to hide till dark?

From what I've read, don't all the carnivore plecos get really territorial as they get bigger? Was hoping the L264 / L14 / L114 are all mean enough to keep each other at bay :D

My L-114's and my L-091(lep. sp.) all hide all the time. My 11" L-114 will come out for food and to go from one cave to another but that is about it. Although the bigger L-114 is big enough to where I can see him even when he's in his caves. Hopefully others could share a species that may be less shy.

I've read the same. But I have also heard people talking about L-114's kicking the snot out of other big territorial plecos. My big L-114 does not seem to bad though. Although he will stand his ground to me and the gravel siphon! I would say the aggression may cancel itself out, but I would have another tank laying around just incase things get out of hand.
BTW when I bought my bigger L-114 I got up from bed to check on him too:grinno: You make me feel less :screwy:!
