Adult Savannah Pick Up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Like all monitors, savs have excellent eyesight. It's quite likely that's what got his attention, and monitors being the curious things they are..

An important lesson to myself... Always remember if you left the cat food out someplace the monitor can reach and always remember to close/lock the door to those rooms. -_-

Sadly, he won't have the opportunity to cause that trouble again since I had to euthanize my cat earlier this week but it was funny at the time. This event also led to the discovery of how well a fat monitor can still climb, since I brought up the baby/pet gates I used to have to put in doorways. He scales those things FAST! 0_o;;

Albert's first Hissing Cockroaches... he loved them, but he sure had a lot of issues with them, heh.

I should have bought more, the vendor was trying to talk me into a small colony to keep breeding but I wasn't sure. Next expo I think I'll pick up a small group to breed, since Albert really liked these.

Target training is also going pretty well. Been using a large, bright purple hoodie as a backdrop everytime I feed him. The hoodie now holds his attention pretty well if I show it to him out of the bathtub when I'm not feeding him. He's also getting a lot more calm and bold when he has time out of the cage... he's not tail whipping, running away, etc anymore. He still puffs and hisses sometimes, but he'll actually come over and investigate us and he came over and slept on my leg once (I put him back in his enclosure shortly after. I was happy he came over but I'm a heat source, figured he'd cooled down a bit too much if he wanted to lay on me).

...still fat though, haha.

Another video, didn't know it was only one per post.

He's looking good! As far as climbing, just wait until he's nice and lean... Then you'll see just how fast he can go, LOL.
Curious, what temperatures are you housing him at, and what is his enclosure like?

A colony of roaches is a must, you'll want it in the long run. Go ahead and get a fairly large group to start with, so you don't have to wait too long before feeding out of it.
