Advice on monster acrylic used tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
? Haha not what I want to hear. Heart pretty set on it but a bad tank is a bad tank. Because of the thickness, bow, or both?

The substandard thickness is no doubt causing that bow, which in turn has resulted in the canopy failing in multiple places. At 3" bow, that tank is a disaster waiting to happen imo.

Sorry I didn't specify, the top failure was due to metal halides the previous owner had on it. Apparently those cracks developed and he had the tank running for years without even fixing them

I see. I dont claim to be an expert but I would think a tank with those dimensions would be made of thicker stock. Best of luck with it should you proceed.

I appreciate it, I'm definitely taking the concern seriously. Any other input is appreciated as well!

Yeah that'd be a pass from me as well unless I was planning to cut it down in height a bunch. Those are waaaaaay undersized side panels.

Just curious would this tank be in a house or a garage tank ?
Hah that is a good question it would be in a sun room so practicality speaking a garage. Although... With a normal tank you're worried about thousands in damage to your house, while this tank breaking would itself be thousands in damage haha.

A tank of this size could do some damage in many ways,
My opinion is simply my opinion and thought process
But I’d heavily consider where the tank will be and if so what are the risk financially and physical harm potentially caused
if you have kids or small animals you care for and It’s going indoors I’d say no way,
Where I’d consider it is if I was a single Guy no small Kids or animals and it was in a garage where only me and other adults go into then I’d consider it, thin tanks built to a min standard do bow I’ve seen it in all my tanks 125-300 gallons
My 300 is all 1/2 and bows more than I even wanna say but it’s not cracked so we are in different scenarios, but I keep it filled almost 2 years it sits in a garage on the street level if it poped the water would run out my garage and into the storm drains
But not to make light of this subject even thick tanks can fail a few things can effect an acrylic tank from what I’ve seen and read I know Fastfreddy17 Fastfreddy17 had a 900 gallon tank pop on him not too long ago so be cautious be safe no sorry used tanks or repaired tanks can fail but I’d personally weight out the risk not all scenarios are equal

Jacob92677 is right on the money. Absolutely not worth the risk. I had a used 750 explode just minutes after my son and l left our garage. We were standing directly in front of it maybe 5/10 minutes before it happened. Don’t do it!! The thought of what could’ve happened to my son still gets to me ?
