Advice on my new Cat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would probably seperate and keep with more placid dithers, sds are absolute pigs and may harass the cat? Maybe...

I used the app Prisma, it's easy. I used it for my profile as well ;)

I'm probably going to move him to the tank with my Plat Sherz. they're very chill fish never seem to be in hurry or aggressive and they're around the Nodosus size.

I always like your choice in avatars. Especially this snake one, looks like a legit painting.

What have you tried feeding? I'd try bobbing a worm or something.
I've tried shrimp which is what Wes said they where eating. Tried night crawlers but even if he was going to show interest it's snatched away by my Pikes or Ingot.

Sherz? Not quite sure what that is...

Thanks, My corn snake makes for some nice photos. I like this one more than vader :D

Maybe a more uninhabited tank will help him come round;)

That's a good suggestion Hendre. It's just IMO the issue is at least partly how aggressive the food competition is in the tank I'm keeping the Nodosus. Plus all the other fish are larger, most by 2 inches or more. I think I'm going to have to move him to one of my other tanks and see if that helps.

I agree I think this fish is easily intimidated/frightened. As it was Wes made me wait for mine because he wanted to make sure it was feeding well before sending it to me. Which to me means it was probably stressed with him as well from shipping etc. and needed some time to get comfortable.

I use Fedex but opt for pick up to minimize travel time. Airport is harder on me and depending on whose sending it sometimes just as hard on the fish. I've had vendors drop off a fish for delivery at the airport that isn't scheduled for a flight till the next day. That combined with delays I've experienced where a fish couldn't be transported on a designated flight because of other cargo and traffic that can take me up to 4 hours to fight to make the round trip and it's just not always viable for me.

I'm pretty good with Nitrates, I use a algae scrubber and change my water every 2-3 days. Though I do want to try floating plants to help create that cover I spoke of. Just trying to figure out how to contain them toward the back of the tank. Flow I believe I said earlier I actually increased and the fish seems most comfortable in it. Though again my fish just hovers in it only occasionally moving and even then it's usually to get out of another fishes way.

I think you're right they might benefit from some schooling fish if you can't have a school or them. I was thinking Silver Dollars. Always liked the Tiger Dollars or maybe some Clouded Archers. I may pick up that little Nodosus, saw Wes now has it up for sale.

Can I ask, what does you cat do kno4te? Does it stay close to the surface? Hover a lot? Or does it explore all areas? Does it ever rest?

Nice Hendre!! I really like how some of them came out.

More or less no change, Still close to the surface, still mostly just hovering in the out of a powerhead, still no poo, still not eating.
Mine is swimming all over the tank right now. But cruises entire tank. I have it with upper jaw polypterus. I do have some pink tail chalceus in there. Surprisingly it always to swim with them. The chalceus don't want anything to do with the catfish.

This morning they(chalceus) were calm and the. At was moving in between them.

It ate some bloodworms and tilapia yesterday. It was agressive at feeding time. Fed it with tongs and attacked the tongs. Some of my polys came by for the left over worms and it head butted all of them and inhaled the food.

I am also adding aquarium salt to the tank. Been doing water changes with little disturbance as I can. I think it helps a bit.

It does rest on the sand or near the driftwood. Then goes back to swimming. It reminds me more of a ID shark when swimming.

Try some floating bloodworms koltsixx koltsixx . I have a feeling it will eat it and it'll help to get it going. The smell and taste won't be refused.

Try some mild tankmates. I think silver dollars and like will be too aggressive. One in a while Hendre Hendre is right lol.

I would try it after night especially if he stays at the top. I would try to use a line or tool, just cause I feel like fish stress when they see my hands. Goal should be to get it to touch the whiskers after it's been in the water a few seconds. Not sure if these are doradids but I have an ambyldoras who refuses to eat with much any light on.

It's a rare driftwood catfish. Most of them are light haters as well but this one, IDK.

Unfortunately i don't have one that's necessarily less inhabited but perhaps contains less imposing fish.

What's funny is my Zebra pike finds the Nodosus pretty interesting. Stays relatively close to the Nodosus and the Nodosus has gotten used to the Zebra. Enough so the Zebra even makes contact sometimes hovering beside the Nodosus or under him. Almost like he's wondering what the Nodosus finds so interesting hovering there.

I'm really glad to hear yours is doing so well and appreciate you sharing your experiences. Gives me an idea of what they're really like when comfortable. Sounds like a typical Auchenipteridae. They're all pretty food competitive, it's one of the characteristics I like most about them; they're ravenous.

I'll try the bloodworms and I guess rethink the SD's based on what you and Hendre say. What do you think about the Clouded Archers? I may consider Chalceus since you seem to be having some success with yours.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did however try feeding after lights out, using my hands, tongs on a string. lol These guys are Auchenipteridae, Woodcats which are known to be light shy but these guys a purported to be the opposite of other Auchenipteridae in that respect.

It's a rare driftwood catfish. Most of them are light haters as well but this one, IDK.
According to the article I read they are one of the most diurnal species of Auchenipteridae. Supposedly they're very active and not light shy at all. With adults feeding almost exclusively from the surface.

Archers aren't too bad of a tankmate. Mainly to themselves. So it should be ok.

I'm sure ur cat will be active and acting right. Once it starts eating I think it'll be get it going.

The brief feeding episode was a bit surprising. Didn't expect it. Will start to up the flow of my powrhead and see what happens.
