good advice ^ ^ and i was told by the shop's fish specialist to leave a bit of room at the top of the tank and never fill it up all the way..is this wrong? >.> and i don't really like cories, although plan of my original plan, i heard that cories will just reduce efficiency of the tank in the long-term....i suppose because they still "draw from the environment"? And anyway, i think tiger barbs would fit into my long term plans from what i read they have great personalities, don't frow over 2in usually and arent aggressive to fish who aren's that much smaller then them. Unless i decide to get a bigger fish and they get eaten....that wouldn't be good and i was planning on getting atleast a few sharks. Aww ..now im confused >_<

I was advised to start with small, preferably schooling fish after my first 3-4 days of cycling..is this right or wrong? Because if right i would appreciate any suggestions of small schooling fish ^ ^

Do a fishless cycle. Read up on them here or google what it is. Change 25-30% weekly along with a weekly gravel vac as you will more than likely notice the buildup of poo and uneaten fish foods (even with a so called "bottom feeder".) I suggest against getting any fish until your tank has gone through a fishless cycle. My 140 gallon tank actually sat empty for 3 months before I decided it was safe to add my large pleco, going by the tests I did. Also fill the tank up all the way, fish shops usually know nothing, and you saying fish specialist I am assuming petco/petsmart are dumber than a blonde trying to do algebra, as simple as it is.

ehh..will do ty but i think im too impatient for that im going to try to get atleast 1 fish in there for the time being..i know that what you say is the best way though

Is there a high chance if i put a small fish in there with only 3 days of cycling that it will die? my friend just started his tank aswell and he only did the 3 days cycle and he has it fille dwith fish already, no problems

It takes the same time to do a fish less cycle. There is a very high chance a fish will die. Your friend has not read much on cycling apparently, neither have the LFS employees. They never give correct information. Plus, you have to find another home for a fish you cycled the tank with. Just put some fish food in there every day and it will cycle the tank in about a month. You will have no fish losses and you will be cycled.

Yea i just told my friend and he was like "aww". lol
Thanks for all the help I<3fish i will read even further into it and decide tomorrow

As far as filling up the tank goes if you have a good hood with no openings where fish could jump out, then yepyou can fill it to where the black plastic starts on the top of the tank
So what types of sharks are you looking at?
The only think I would reccomend is maybe a pictus cat?

Yea i have a few 1 inch opening at the top were i placed the heater and filter so i don't want to take any chances but thanks and i was looking at balas or iridescent but supposedly they grow too big
right now im looking at rainbows i guess since they are the only ones everyone says i can fit
