Aequidens rivulatus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
GT's are hardly the 1st or only species to have similair yet different subspecies the largest of this class I know of is the Aulonocara's some natural hybirds, some man made hybirds, and some that are similar from different regions ................it doesn't mean one fish is prettier , more collctable, or that they can't share the same common name - Peacock.

Personally I could make the agument that the species Aequidens rivulatus common name "terror" should be removed...........there's only one true terror - Festae's! j/k

man i read the whole thread i see this is a touchy topic

Indeed touchy and timeless.

Bottom line though is this:

Multiple south american fish that all look similar are referred to as green terror. Calling a gold saum a green terror is no more wrong or right than calling rivulatus a green terror. All are referred to with the same nickname.

Currently however when people say green terror they are talking about a saum (most likley gold) as it is the most common to be found and this is what it turns out they have. It is also the name it was advertised under.

The people with the rivulatus like to try and make their fish distinct by prepending the word 'true' to it when they should just say rivulatus to avoid this whole debate.

In my book they are all green terror. They are all nice fish.

I meant progenies (F1) from a cross (parents = F0). Doesn't matter if it's wild or tank bred. Edited original question to clarify...

Back in the day (before anyone knew or cared) I had a mixed pair of "Green Terrors" - one gold and one silver (or silber if you're German)... that bred every month or so...

These are very closely related fish that WILL cross in captivity...
