Very nice group of beasts you have, and I love the color of the garnet sand.

The stuff I have is darker almost brown.

In your poly days. Did you ever jump on the red garnet bandwagon? That was the holy substrate grail which nobody could find. If they did, it was all a "Top Cali Secret", lol.... Nowadays, thanks to this high trafficking forum. It's easy peasy to locate. :) $16-20 per 55lb bag

That's where I got mine, didn't know it was a secret.

I got mine years ago and just had surplus in the garage, I'll stop by to get more see if I can mix the newer stuff with this color in with my old stuff and get the lance I'm looking for.

Nice! Very cool videos - love to watch them via this unique angle. Happy you're having good success with your larger WCs. My tank stays where I want it nitrite wise at 50% per week. I recently found ou that the city of PDX is raising their pH over time toward 8. My tank pH drops some because the water is also so soft, so I worry about doing larger than 50% due to potential shock. (Tap pH was always 7 before.)

clm08k clm08k - you discuss using plants in your tank which will help (roots) and you can use Malaysian Trumpet Snails to stir up the substrate for you.

I've read on planted forums that you should stick to a sand bed 1.5-2 inches to help prevent anaerobic issues.
