African Arowana- How to keep?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
IMO 24/7 food supply wasn't neccesary, I only fed my African Aros 1x a day. They grow hella fast too. My water was never an issue for my African Aros. When my African Aro was 4"-5", it ate small pieces of shrimp, blackworms. ;) I use to do 90% waterchange on my 10g with the African Aro(not recommended for other people).

i had mine in a 10 gal until it reached 7 inches or so, it was just easier to feed and clean since it was fed so often. but there shouldnt be a problem putting them in a bigger tank if food is often available to them

Not recommended then why'd you do it? XD

hmmm... seeing so many people use small tanks as grow outs for afros... Is it better for the fish? Because I was planning to put it straight into my future 6'x4'x3'...
Bigger tank=it would have to work harder for the food. ;) You would have to throw in alot of food. Better off keeping it in a 20-40g 1st or smaller. I did 90% since my filter isn't strong for the 10g.

Also when I fed 1x, I either gave it 1 cube of bloodworms, or 2 spoon of blackworms, or 6-10 small pieces of shrimp when it was 4"-5". ;)

6-10 pieces of shrimp?? Wait wait... what difference is shrimp and prawn?
Shrimp is smaller and prawns are bigger, I think. ;) I feed both to my fish, but I consider them the same thing haha.

haha how about using those worm cones? Do you guys think its easier for the afro to get his food? And what if there are tankmates? What's the best way to feed afros?

How much are afros around the world anyway? I have been told juveniles costs below MYR300 and 18" specimen can fetch MYR1200
