African Arowana- How to keep?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had my african arowana with tankmates when it was 4"-5", I don't think it's neccesary for worm cone, most my African aro's tankmates weren't interested in blackworm. Best way to feed them is drop the food in large amounts if you got tankmates interested in the same food. ;)

I havent found a source for black worms here in M'sia....

And will any pellets for big fish work? Or must I use Hikari or something? Why don't they accept pellets anyways? The smell?
IMO they are alot easier than any other Aros to train onto any pellets. ;) If you can find small pellets that can fit there mouth then I don't see why you can't feed them it. :) Better to bulk them up with black/bloodworm or small meaty food pieces then when there bigger get them onto pellets.

k.. Is this thread responsible for your new pic? XD
No. :grinno: I just been loving monster sized African Aros more! :D

I just got an Afro two days ago, I'd say about 3.5" long. Been having problems feeding it actually. When I drop and cube of Hikari bloodworms in, they defrost too fast and the fish doesn't seem to know how to eat the worms that have fallen to the ground. Doesn't really even eat the worms that are sinking but still in mid-water. Had some luck with small lie brine shrimp but I'm worried that it isn't enough to satisfy the fish's hunger. Oh and I just added three 2.5" polypterus senegalus and a random pleco in. Seem to be doing fine. Is one cube per feeding enough or should I just add two cubes at one go? Also, I bought a bottle of Hikari daphnia but they float on the surface of the water and I don't see the Afro going up to eat it. In your opinion, what is perhaps the best food to feed baby Afros? Oh and sorry for crashing your thread :/
