african brown knife in community tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Those should be fine. Mine eats frozen bloodworms and tetra wafers.

what im gonna do is call petsmart ahead of time and see whos working there and if i should go in and pick them up or not, judging by if im talking to someone who i know knows what theyre doing or not.

why do you need someone knowledgable there? I don't understand. Do your research before you go (which it seems like you are doing), find the fish you want, make sure they look healthy, and then have someone get them.

IMO, treat chain employees as nothing more that fish catchers

well its seems like when i go there, there are people who when i ask questions have an answer for them, but getting that kind of luck is rare. like the time i went in and asked if they had mbuna and she had no idea what i was talking about. but i know ppl there who i can ask questions that will span across many different fish types and theyll still have trhe answer for me. i guess you are right though.

It seems that you're getting your questions answered here, which is the best place for answers :headbang2 But I understand having that personal interaction makes it seem reassuring. Just beaware that places like Petsmart will often give you the wrong answers 95% even if they seem like they know what they're talking about. Is there a small Mom and Pop store around you? Those are better places to find knowledgeable people. Or even try calling.

usualluy i go to petland, which is a smaller chain, but the best selection, and theyll give you right anwers and advice, but they dont carry african brown knives, only a royal clown knife and some bgk's. ill prolly be heading to petsmart tomorrow to pick them up.

African knifes are usually good but i heard a storie that somebody put an ak in their tank and it would attack the other fish at night, biting their eyes out and killing them. But this was only one story and ive hear more positive ones about these fish

It's a bit late but you may want to try a larger coffe mug for a good hiding place for your ABK. I buried mine partially in the gravel and placed large washed river stones on the sides and top to make it look more natural. I also have driftwood and several live plants.
I got my ABK from Pet Smart in late September and it has been very happy in the mug as well as under the driftwood.

As far as feeding goes mine has been eating Tetra freeze dried blood worms (believe it is mosquito larvae though) frozen beefheart and live ghost shrimp.

Let me know if you would like pictures.
