Ok so i was going between pet stores today cause i was looking for some good tankmates for my future delhezi and i can across this african leaf fish, i asked the girl what she knew about the fish and she wasnt extremely knowledgeable but seemed to know enough. She told me that they eventually eat crickets when they get older and will take freeze dried food and pellets. She also told me that they were brackish. So...i get home and do some research. For one i havent seen anything about them being brackish. They can get alot bigger than the 5in they told me they could get. Right now he's pushing 1in. So...what im looking for is if anyone has had any experience with these fish. I can do whatever it takes to make this little bugger happy. I saw one site that said earthworms work well for food, as well as bloodworms. I have access to both. Let me know what you think. thanks.

Was it a Petsmart?

Sounds like the "Leopard Bushfish" or Ctenopoma Acustoire (sp?)
Definitely not brackish. Comes from softer more acid water. Supposedly they get about 8", but mine, at least, is growing extremely slow.

Mine eats frozen blood worms and raw prawns when i tear them into small skinny strips.

Thanks,
Will

if it is the ctenopoma then they get a bit bigger than what you were told, not brackish, and really aren't picky eaters (mine eat pellets and did so from day one).

if it is a south american leaf fish or Monocirrhus polyacanthus then they are extremely hard to get to eat anything other than live foods, still aren't brackish, and get about 5-6in (not 100% sure on the size)

From pictures on the internet ive figured it the african one, not the south american one...they really do suck at petsmart. So many times I've wanted to write them a note telling them to name their fish correctly and put the correct information on the labels. Theyre one of the reasons people get fish that they cannot possibly keep their whole lives. Like on this fish it said 10 gal + for housing space.

So i also hear they like to eat crickets? Is that a good feeder for them or should I stay away from them?
