African leaf fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hahaa.

They have similar care requirements-planted tank, peaceful tankmates etc.

They usually accept live food such as guppies only, at first.

Thanks for the advice people. Ill probobly get him next week and let him adjust for awhile before looking at tankmates.

they are great fish, I've found them to be more aggressive than most experiences others have had. Either way, they are good looking fish, although I find them a bit dull in terms of how active they are and things like that

Ctenopoma acutirostre are awesome fish in my experience. I've had one for about a year and a half and he's very interesting to watch. I believe it has a crush on my SA lungfish cuz it'll "sit" ontop of it or wanna snuggle! I also feed him live ghost shrimp occassionally and he pretends to be a leaf and sneaks up on the shrimp and engulfs them.

As for temperment I havent really had any issues with other cichlids. He'll chase other fish occassionally but is not quick enough and hasnt caused any damage. As for corys I know mine doesnt have a big enough mouth to eat an adult so if you are thinking corys just make sure they are bigger.

They are very cool looking fish, I agree. Other african oddballs would go well with it, like lots of bichirs.

They get about 6" or so, sometimes slightly larger.

I should convert my 20gal to a convict breeding tank when my ancient tetras die. That would provide a good food supply.

Some good tankmates would be an african butterfly fish and some bichirs, I've always wanted to do this setup.

Next to the leopard bush fish in the tank at the lfs there's a nice looking brown knife and some big catfish. I don't know what the catfish are, but they're about 5 inches long and silver colored. How big do brown knives get? It would be great to have all 3 in my tank.
