African leaf fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A stocklist for an african oddball setup could include these fishes: African brown knife, Polypterus species like Senegalus and Delhezi, Synodontis species like Nigriventis and Cameleopardis or Eupterus, Ropefish, Ctenopoma species like Acutirostre and kingsleyae or ansorgii. Distichodus Affinis ( if you want a nice schooling fish), African Butterfly fish, Elephantnoses and other myrmoriids that don´t get too big (like aba aba). Caecomastacembellus ellipsifer (eel), Bedotia madagascariensis.

Hope this list will help, these fish are for tanks between 55 and 120

Thanks for the info. Bichirs are really cool fish, ill need to take a trip to some other stores to find more reasonably priced ones.

jeez you want to get rid of your oscar because you think it's boring, but you are replaceing it with a fish that resembles a leaf and "floats" around the tank........

yea, an "african leaf fish" is a Ctenopoma acutirostre if i remember correctly. the true "leaf fish" is a south american fish (Monocirrhus polycanthus).

ime the ctenopoma sp. grow SLOOOOW, and i would wager the one you are looking at is under 3"s currently? if so you could propably keep him with most cory sp. or larger tetra sp.

good luck :)

i agree almost entirely with a few edits:

ctenopoma ansorgii stays too small to be kept with most of those other species. and distichodus affinis grows ENORMOUS! and would under no circumstances make it in a 120 gallon tank for very long. they also have a tendancy to get mean towards tankmates. then you mention "other mormyrids that dont get too big (like aba aba)." you do know that aba aba knifes arnt mormyrids? or that they get about 3-4 feet long and are entirely intolerant of tankmates?

i dont mean to sound abrasive, just correcting some flawed info :)
