I just ordered for from River Wonders today all at three inches (moved cichlids to pond so my 240 is empty) I have heard that though in the wild they get 24 inches that (from a guy who has some) the biggest he has ever had has been one foot and as long the fish isn't small they are fairly peaceful. But, I have read that they are aggressive with fish that resemble them-a shame cause I wanted to add a school of A. Falcatus and Hujeta Gar-do you guys think I should give it a go! The guy I spoke to at River Wonders said it would work.

my first predatory fish pet , its quite hardy ,i find its aggression wise quite ok and yes temperament of the same species predatory fish does vary , generally skittish when juvenile , and of course do cover the tank properly and secured , quite a escape artist too

Temperament must vary from fish to fish by the sounds of it. The one I had (see pics below) was not what I would call an aggressive eater. It would gladly gulp down prawns, whitebait and smelt, but would not compete well for food. I would have to feed him at one end of the tank while keeping the dat fed at the other end. As far as aggression to other fish went, it was noit very tolerent of "like" appearance fish, my bala sharks for instance, but was fine with anything else. Cool fish for sure.

What are the fin like things coming out of the sides of the mouth called. I have kept several hujeta characins that resemble this fish and they also have the same fin like things on the side of the mouth. Does any body know of the hujeta are related to this fish? They sure do have the same body structure. And it sounds like the temperment is spot on as well. And the size is said to be the same. IDK?

I have hujeta and for them yes, more than enough. When in a community tank with other fish they stay at the top most of the time. And if they are by there self they usually explore all over.

I am thinking of a school of Hujeta and Falcatus to go with them-mine at the moment behave alot like Hujeta even look alike.

they are very aggressive fish! and they grow really fast. i bought mine when he was 2'' and within a month he grew to 3.5''. it only takes feeders. amazing fish.

Mine feed on frozen foods, crickets and mealworms. The 2 I have have showed no aggression whatsoever. They are a very skittish fish with a tendency to crash into the glass resulting in damaged noses
