Africans or Americans?

The peacocks were for my girl lol.

I have two tanks set up at the moment, one African and the other American. The African tank is very colorful and active but they just don't compare to my American tank. My SA/CA cichlids have more of a curious nature. They react to each other with more varying personalities. While I enjoy the variety of the African tank, I really love my Amer. tank especially now that i am changing my stock. What do you expect from this forum? I think were all just a tad bit biased on this subject.

I've tried to do an African tank on a couple of occasions. I have one word about them....BORING. You can try it but if you're used to having new worlds cichlids and their awesome personalities, I can almost guarantee you'll switch back.
+1000

i like africans but i do like americans more i dont find either boring im getting a african tank soon and i find them really neat

that's more or less my answer too . . . my GF likes them because of all the pretty colors, but I just don't find them interesting at all . . . I don't see the "personality" in them that I see in my CA/SA cichlids . . .

i would say my fav african is the buffalohead i love those.

You're posting in the American cichlid section, the answers are going to be biased. I don't know if I've ever posted in the African cichlid section, because I'm not interested in African cichlids.
I did think about that but had to choose one lol. Figured most people would see it on new posts anyways. Thanks for the responses. The more I think about it though I think I will probably stick with new world. Maybe santa will bring me a larger tank & I could try both?

If you can't decide between africans and americans, compromise and get some african-americans.

Just curious: Why do you all think Africans are boring? I've had my 90g mbuna for a couple of years and I can watch them for hours. I think the best part is that they DON'T react to my presence, they just go about with what they do. More of a natural habitat type of thing.

I also recently started a CA tank. Actually, that one is kind of boring right now, but all the fish are juvies right now. Kind of funny seeing a 90g tank with six, small fish. I want them to grow up NOW! :)

I feel for the most part, barring a few species, that all african cichlids look exactly the same. Thats why I find them boring. Big fan of frontosas though.
