Haven't seen a bio rocker in a long time!

How would you keep mosquitoes out of your sumps?

I screened the canopy, and plan on screening the sump too.
Although I'm more worried about the toxic tadpoles, the frogs breed in just about any standing water here.

The canopy screen is mostly to keep Amphibians out, and once fish are added, I doubt any mosquitos will survive.
I've always thought sumps were a great place to raise fry, so any that get thru the screen shouldn't last long either.

Water came into our cistern today, so I added a little more to the tank.

Hot damn. What a thread!
I am following.
Growing up in Zimbabwe and Zambia I see why you do it. Third world living has a charm and charisma developed countries will never understand. I miss it and my wife knows we are returning to that kind of living somewhere in the world someday.

Now that the tank has been filled a few days, sump running, and a few fish and lots of plants added, (but being anal about these things).
I realize I'm jumping the gun a bit, but starting to test the tank water, and will keep a log to detect changes and trends as the fish in cycle begins, and things progress.
My "tap" water has a pH of 7.6
The tank, slightly higher at between 8 and 8.2.
I believe this is because some of the substrate is coral sand from off the Pacific beach 50 yards across the street.
Ammonia and nitrate both zero.
With the 25 x 1" or less Gambusia as the only fish in 180 gallons, this is no surprise.
