After 38 years of fish keeping, and you know what?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I quit the hobby twice when I got married and moved into a new house. Funny thing I went to my LFS every week even though I had no tank and enjoyed that. Wasn't long and the fish bug bit me again and I fell back into it! I knew I would never really leave for good. This is my 40th year messin with tropical fish.

I've put my tanks "away" only once, for a short time, only to be drawn back full force. I couldn't deny it. My wife thinks I need help :)

Well, if your wife thinks you need help, let her help you. Everyone could use a bit of help once in awhile with fish tank care and maintenance. Especially now that's she shown she interested. All of that Ichthyological knowledge you possess, you can share with her. See what she has to look forward to? Now there's a method to this madness. If all of this works, it helps you in persuading her, to allow for more monster tanks. Good Luck!

I really wish that I could meet one of you guys or have a real life friend who is also addicted to fish! because I'm the only one who is really addicted here and my friends think that I'm wierd when I stared at my tank whole day and my officemates are also making fun of me when I research about fish and watch videos in youtube here in our office! :(

Its funny to think about it, I wonder what makes a fish keepers mind different than the ordinary person walking down the street. :)

Look at it this way:
"It's funny to think about it. I wonder what makes the ordinary person different than a fish keeper's mind, walking down the street?"

You said it yourself, Readearsunfish. We are different in the fact that we are not ordinary. WE are a unique group of well rounded people, from all over the world, coming from a melting pot of different backgrounds, dedicated from within ourselve to do something ordinary people don't have either the time patience, or desire to do. Learning from each other in the proper stewardship of the fishes we keep, and to continue and strive to learn from books, magazine articles, journal publications, personal experiences, shared experiences from other MFK members and the list goes on.

But if you stop and look at it, there is a variety of stewards in many different disciplines of animals, birds, reptiles, freshwater and saltwater fishes, wild and domesticated. But, it's our personal choice as to which discipline we chose and we chose to be fishkeeping stewards. Because of this choice, it is now our responsibility to honor that choice with the utmost care we can provide for those in our charge. And it is because of this one great widly shared choice by many, that it makes us unique, in what we do and who we are. This is what sets us apart from "the ordinary people walking down the street."

I hope this helps you with you thought, you kindly shared with us. Thank you.

I agree this hobby and this site is great, other "normal" people may think i am crazy but i can think of lots of worse things I could be doing with my time and money, so they leave me alone haha
