The concept of Needs is often used to refer to things that people "must" have. They are often contrasted with wants, which are more discretionary.

What do you define as needs and wants?

When does a need cross the line into a want, or visa versa.

needs as in the need for water, shelter (house), sleep, to eat, to breath and the need to dispose of bodily wastes :naughty:

wants as in things we desire, like a tv, big house, a car, stereo, big fish tank :naughty:, luxury items.

but we cant have everything we want :( , because of limited supply (economics) , and must look for the an alternative that sometimes will cost us less (settle for a poly bin instead of the expensive acrylic tank).

take a tv for example when crossing a want into a need, too many people feel they NEED a tv in there houshold, when it is indeed a want.

Now, Let us move onto the concept of a "need"...

What defines a Need? Why is Shelter a need?

What is the point/idea, of a Need?

things that are essential and nessesary for survival.

Shelter: we need shelter for protection against the elements (rain, snow, heat, cold, wind) and to feel secure (i sure wont feel good or safe sleeping in the middle of an open field in the park with nothing but the cloths on my back or in open public in general)

without shelter we will suffer and parish from exposure.

You are wise im guessing you are older than most youngins like myself...

p.s i want a job at my fish store so i can get fish for cheaper..

but i have to be 16..

5 more months!

I urge you to ask the question... why.

Why is water essential? Because our physical body requires H2O?

Why do we need food? Because our physical body requires Protien, Fat, and Carbs?

Does our physical body require shelter? Or Clothing?

Answer- No. it does not, depending on the climate. So why do you think shelter or clothing is required for our survival?

Would fire be considered essential?

If you are going to get down to the basics, you must go all the way.

Tell me. What about psychological health? Do we not need to feel happy, to live healthy? What is the point in living if only to "survive" off the bare minimum?

One cannot assume we require the same essentials, as animals.

We are equal parts body, and BRAIN.

Do you agree?

Wow, this topic all of a sudden got way too deep. :screwy: :screwy:

KID!!! YOU WILL BE WORKING THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!!! :WHOA:

ENJOY NOT HAVING A JOB WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!! :nilly: :nilly:

GO OUTSIDE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
.

I'm only 24 and I'm already wishing i was still a kid in school. What a life.

Get a Paper Route or something. But for pete's sake, be a kid before real life hits you hard!!!

That's my opinion.

You know what my parents told me when i wanted a new video game?
"Christmas is coming"
(mind you they would say this at any point during the year) Even in January.
Save up those nickles and dimes. Take bottles to the recycle plant, look for loose change, and just make sure that Mom or Dad or whoever knows what you want for your birthday or christmas.
(if you celebrate christmas)

But my point is. You arent supposed to have a lot of money. You're 14 years old.
You are only going to be young once.
Dont get a job now.

ahhhhhhh you are refering to Love/Belonging needs

well we Humans want to be accepted and to belong, whether it be to clubs, work groups, religious groups, family etc. We need to feel loved (sexually and non-sexually) by others, and to be accepted by them. People also have a constant desire to feel needed. In the absence of these elements, people become increasingly susceptible to loneliness, social anxiety and depression.

theres also status or esteem needs.

Humans have a need to be respected, to self-respect and to respect others. People need to engage themselves in order to gain recognition and have an activity or activities that give the person a sense of contribution and self-value, be it in a profession or hobby(FISHKEEPING!!!). Imbalances at this level can result in low self-esteem, inferiority complexes, an inflated sense of self-importance or snobbishness. There are two levels to Esteem needs. The lower of the levels relates to elements like fame, respect, and glory (lol, thats you neal). The higher level is contingent to concepts like confidence, competence, and achievement. The lower level is generally considered poor. It is dependent upon other people, or someone who needs to be reassured because of lower esteem. People with low esteem need respect from others. They may seek fame or glory, which again are dependent on others. However confidence, competence and achievement only need one person and everyone else is inconsequential to ones own success.

go a step higher and you have being needs which is reach your fullest potential,m (in short)

Self-actualization is the instinctual need of humans to make the most of their unique abilities and to strive to be the best they can be. Maslow describes self-actualization as follows

They embrace the facts and realities of the world (including themselves) rather than denying or avoiding them. They are spontaneous in their ideas and actions. They are creative. They are interested in solving problems; this often includes the problems of others. Solving these problems is often a key focus in their lives. They feel a closeness to other people, and generally appreciate life. They have a system of morality that is fully internalized and independent of external authority. They judge others without prejudice, in a way that can be termed objective. In short, self-actualization is reaching your fullest potential.
