16.when when i hit that age i ran straight to the pet store for an application.hired
i knew for sure sure i was getting a spot

My petsmart hates me because i tell them there idiots.. they sold this girl an oscar and asked what size tank shes putting it in and said im gona put him in my 10 gallon with my neons... i was like U cant do that idiot 1.) the oscar needs atleast a tank as wide as his max growth and 2.) he will eat those neons so fastt..... and now they hate me ;)

After turning 18, join the construction trade(UNION), I tried it.....Carpentry, Ironworkers, Cement Masons....Then go to college at night....Sure the majority of the union these days are made up of ex-cons and non-english speaking people, but it's a guaranteed $400-600 every Friday afternoon....Try it for a month or two and save the money...I'm know two months of NET(money in your pocket) pay from the carpenter's union is equivalant to half a year or more working at Burger King....

I'm 17 and have been working at the pet shop for a few months now.

You do have to be 19 to buy a pet from us.

The reason for this is: a 15 year old girl thinks its a great idea to buy a cat for her mom,
whereas, when she takes the kittywitty home, her mom flips out about who is going to take
care of it, and no room for a cat, and not being able to afford food for it, and the vet,
THUS:

the cat is taken back to the store (IF they are nice people)

OR thrown outside and the cat wanders away and probably starves.

I can work at the store at 17, because I am not taking the cats and dogs home.
If i wanted to purchase one, i'd need an adult over 19 with me.

I CAN however purchase any fish or rodent I want, and things like that.

if this is true then ive broken the law more times than imaginable, were did u hear u have to be 18 to by a live animal.

Basically it's a contract issue.

I've learned in Business School that any sale is an implied contract. For a contract to be valid, the parties to the contract, the buyer and the seller has to be of legal age. The legal age could be different depending on which state you live in.

If a store is to sell to an underage buyer there is no legal contract binding the transaction. Therefore the buyer may cancel the contract/sale or return the merchandise for any reason, valid or not. PetStores, especially those that sell fish are exposed to lost business. If the fish bought, dies, the underage buyer can return the fish and demand a refund with the store obligated to comply.

Stores are basically defenseless from underage buyers. The exposure for stores is greatest when live animals are involved.
