Anybody keep these cats? I am getting couple today and looking for some experience with them.

Growth rate
Tank mates
Feeding etc.

I haven't noticed super fast growth in any of the Ageneiosus cat species, I'd say slow to moderate growers. They like to swim in the current mid water level most of the time however occasionally just sit on the bottom completely still. I prefer to keep mine with a sand substrate to mimic more natural habitat and have kept Ageneiosus Magoi, Ageneiosus Marmoratus, and Ageneiosus sp. in the past. I generally fed earthworms or other various live foods, never found mine to be that interested in pellets.

As far as tank mates go, anything that can't fit in their mouth and isn't too aggressive works. I'd aim to keep them with other smaller SA cichlid species

I had problems finding anything non-live for my specimen to become interested in. To the point of eventually losing the fish. I couldn't break it.

So these fish came in a day after this post. Long story short they won't touch any food. Earthworm, pellets, shrimp etc. About the only thing around here I can try is feeders. (which I am not sure I even want to go there.) Seem healthy enough for now but imagine that will diminish in time.

Try some wild caught baby sunfish or baby convicts.

Just as a follow up I got these guys eating shrimp. First day gave them 10 feeder minnows and they ate them. Next day basically cut the shrimp like strips of fish and loosely attached them to fishing line dangling in the current. Left them for 2 nights now to find no shrimp in the morning. This morning I ended up just throwing the shrimp in there in a few chunks and they were gone by the time I get home. Still won't touch an earthworm funny enough but looks like this will end well. I still have not seen them eat but pretty assured they are

I am happy for yah. Makes me wonder of my miserable failure.

Anyhow, why do you not see them feed? Do they only do it under the darkness of the night?

Thanks! They are in a large quarantine tank now so it is mostly dark in the room it is in however they are still very elusive. Will only swim around in pitch black (other tanks have to be off) and if they see me they will go to opposite Corners of the tank and lay on the bottom. I throw in shrimp in the morning before the lights go on and night when the lights go off. Always gone in a few hours. IT will be interesting to see if they do the same in general population (big tank). I will keep you posted and snap some pics. Funny enough they still won't touch worms or any size.
