FWIW, there is no mention on known sexing on any of the species of the genus on PCF: https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/genus.php?genus_id=105#714 ...

except the magoi: https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=298 where it says:
"Sexing Like all Auchenipterids, males have a genital papilla. Moreover, sexually active males get an enlarged and slightly curved dorsal spine and thickened barbels, that are used to clasp the female.

After the breeding season, the dorsal spine and the barbels grow back to their normal sizes."


Seems like the vendor only knew half of the info, unless yours are adults and in the mood...
Just seeing this but was told the same by the vendor I got mine from. The pics on Planet Catfish are of my male based on that assumption which had a noticeably curved dorsal spine compared to the one I was told was female.
