Interesting. Mine was the opposite. Couldn't care less who was where but just would not feed. Although I always left the night light on, so there was never pitch dark. That appears to be one thing that could explain my failure.
That’s what I was told by the importer yesIs that a known gender-differentiating trait?
FWIW, there is no mention on known sexing on any of the species of the genus on PCF: https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/genus.php?genus_id=105#714 ...That’s what I was told by the importer yes

except the magoi: https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=298 where it says:
"Sexing Like all Auchenipterids, males have a genital papilla. Moreover, sexually active males get an enlarged and slightly curved dorsal spine and thickened barbels, that are used to clasp the female.
After the breeding season, the dorsal spine and the barbels grow back to their normal sizes."
Seems like the vendor only knew half of the info, unless yours are adults and in the mood...[/QUOTEVery interesting. Thanks for the info. I also could have taken it out of context when they said the male was the one with the taller dorsal and female shorter. Perhaps they were just referencing which was which but who knows. Thanks for the information regardless.
