Where do you draw the line when to seperate the two if need be? Female just a bit bigger then the male & eats well. Sure she is prego by now. BUt she has some nips around the edges. Seems okay. Will this be okay & usual or when do or if I need to split them up?
pair is in a 340 well filtered system 72x36 foot print. pair around 12" . Also have a few dollar types that I plan on removing because they are getting roughed up by most likely the rays.

thanks

It's hard to say without seeing them.

In my experience if the male is clueless as to what it's doing with the ladies they will cause a lot more damage then if they actually know what they're doing. I've had females completely shredded and never get preggo and ones get preggo without a mark being put on them.

It can get ugly FAST so be very cautious. Be aware that it may likely get worse if you seperate on the same system as it seems the male will still know the female's there and since he can't find her seems the frustration grows. Reintroduce them and sparks fly.

Good luck!

My female takes quite a bit of abuse but it doesn't seem to phase her. If your female seems stressed or isn't eating enough then I would consider separating them.

Thanks guys,
She seems a bit stressed but stays by him more. Disk is a bit nipped up but not horrible. But she does have a indent inbetween her eyes whichs is odd. They ate some pellets but did not eat their silversides today, Ate worms yesterday. The Dollars are roughed up all & some with cloudy eye.
Tomorrow morning when I go in, I'm going to do a big water change & take out the dollars & just have the pair & see how they do the next couple days & if worse case scenario I may give him a time out within the main tank by placing him in a large floating laundry basket?
I will update here as the days go by in case I need some more feed back how to respond to the pair domestic dispute.

Strange the dent in the head is said to be a sign of emaciation would probably be a good idea to post a pic so these guys could take a look at it....

Okay I will get a pic. Yeah just noticed it today. She usually is a pig & aggressive eater etc.. Kinda looks like someone pushed their finger inbetween her eyes. She is not showing ribs etc.. but is looking a little thinner then normal. The male looks like he is pregnant more now.

I have a female marble and male motoro both around 9" wondering the same thing. My female has been in the tank for a week now just took out the divider yesterday and he seems to be going at her but not too bad. No damage to her disk or bite marks but gonna keep a close eye on them.

I'll make sure to follow this thread as people give their input...

IF you have a dent you have a problem. Would not have anything in with her till the dents gone. Would be changing water religeously and feeding 3X a day.
