? Aggression from Male marble ray towards female & mating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont know because I think the rays harrased them? I think because they are matting & the male has been aggressive has upset the balance. Yesterday she had a good amount of krill but he would not eat! I have a new tub of nightcrawlers coming in today so I will feed them heavy.

Thanks

Silver dollers can be pretty bold especially at feeding the rays might have been trying to chase them away but also been stressed...But i hope it's behind ya for sure...

Thanks for the help & advice. Could be & the dollars did get very bold & aggressive at eating (everything) They are in rough shape & now crammed in a 80g tank. gotta setup another big tank. I have had the thin bars for about 8 years! I caught what I call booda in 08 in Peru so these guys I do not want to lose either. But My Rays are very important & have put some good dough into these & their upkeep. I'm hoping to have pups around Christmas?
Its amazing how rays & even some other fishes (oscars) can be picky or selective on the types of food when they are eating machines! Wish they could talk & tell me why? LOL . I'm sure not going to taste test the food & i'm allergic to seafood.

update, Female taking down 2-3 night crawlers easy then no more & no silversides at all. & the make has not eaten the last day in half! Did another 40% water change & added some kosher salt. Its odd back & forth between who is eating. Heading up the shop shortly so hopefully they both eat & out of their funk.

very strange did you introduce anything that could have brought parasites ???

Nope! Only two things different, One mating & aggression by male then different brand of silversides which they use to eat before.

So this morning the male ate about one worm & one silver side. Female ate 3 worms & a silverside. So a better day. Before I left the shop the male was out from the sand out & about. Female more active it seems.

So tomorrow will be another day to see how they want to eat & acts?

late update, but all back to normal. it was a crazy couple weeks with this pair acting up. The female is pounding food down & lost that indent pretty quick. That was a odd thing. The male slowed his eating here & there then would go into the sand but he now is eating silversides, worms etc. He actully looks like he is pregant.
Had a customer that has rays in a big system & said he read that they can stop eating all of a sudden for a couple days or so?
I figured it all came down to the males aggression & breeding. Now I hope she is pregant & I will have some pups down the road. :)

later
