Aggression - how long to wait to "settle"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks so much for all of the suggestions. It's really hard when you have a fish that you really like (the Del) and they are getting hurt. I don't feel like I can do a divider because I already feel like a 3-foot footprint, even with 18" width, is a little on the small side. Maybe if I had started with all 3" polys, or started out with 3 right away I would have had a different outcome. :(

I was so desperate yesterday that I even seriously thought about going to PetSmart/Petco to see if they had Senegals but I just cannot get myself to buy fish from these places - I don't trust them. So that tells a story right there. LOL

No need to feel bad about your decisions i could probably fill 3 aquariums just with fish i had to rehome lol.

If you get the itch you can always grow the gold dust with the del... i love my del too regardless of all the wc polys i can get i could never rehome spike ! (The dels name)

At this point because my tank is fairly densely planted I feel like I should avoid bichirs that will likely hide 24/7. So that's why I was into the Pollis - even though not as attractive (IMO) than the Retropinnis or Buettekoferi they are supposed to be out and about a lot like the Sens....

(At the same time the Del and the ropes seem to enjoy swimming in and out of the plants...)

I don't know. Argh! LOL

Dont be sad, just take your time getting back at polys. Just take care of thr del and let it heal before you add some polys again. Polys will come and go, i had to rehome most of my upper jaws cause my lower jaws were eating them. So just take your time and enjoy what you have.

(Maybe I need one of the Palmas Pollis after all, once they're ready....) ;)

But then again, that's a 2 bichir tank... But the Del is very chill... I am driving myself nuts. LOL

I dont think upper jaws will eat each other even you add a some 2" with a 6". One time i had a 7" delhezi with a 2"cb koliba i was trying to grow, and it never even touched it or bullied it. So i think adding a less than 3" sen with the del wont hurt.

I think you would be fine to add some smaller fish as long as the upgrade is a definite.

I did the exact samething with my 150 gal i have a bunch of poly's in there that i would never have kept in there for life but i knew i would be upgrading towards the beginning of 2017 so i over stocked knowing that it wasnt permanent.

Plus upper jaws with the exception of ornates (cant speak on weeksii or tuegs since i havent kept them) dont have too crazy of a growth rate. As long as theres no aggression on your on top of your water parameters it should be fine

I can promise you, the ropes will be very appealing. As i mentioned they are quite a bit more social than their poly cousins. If they were a little more gray in color they would almost look like the senegal cousins. Very docile fish though. Try dropping in a nightcrawler, they will show you the rope feeding frenzy i mentioned haha.

If your husband really loves you though, he would join you in your hobby and add to your delusions of grandeur (lets blow a wall out of the house and build in a proper aquarium of several thousand gallons). Hopefully when you get into the larger tank, you will take a chance on a fire eel... my absolute favorite fish, and very intelligent.
