I bought 2 juvenile Trimacs today that are about 2-3 inches big, well when I put them in my tank with 2x8 inch Oscars they are getting chased around and look like sitting ducks. So tonight I'm going to head to my local Wal-Mart and pick up a 10-15G tank and using it as the Trimacs temp house until they get bigger and I get my 125G next month...

For filtration I was thinking about just using my Powerhead 350 if not just get a large air pump and pump some bubbles for water agigtation. What are some things I should know about before doing this? And how long before it becomes unsafe for the juvy Trimacs in the 10-15G?

Oscars r very aggressive fish. Your oscars don't want any other tankmates that's the reason.........

Try to pick up a sponge filter and run it with your powerhead. Squeeze out your filter media from your oscar tank into the new tank, bam, instant cycle. A 10 will be a bit cramped, if you can grab a 20G out there that would work better, let them put on a few inches and try them with the oscars again. Should be fine for a couple months at least. They're trimacs...they'll eventually be able to more than hold their own I'm sure.

I wouldn't say Oscars are 'very aggressive' at least not in comparison to most SA/CA Cichlids... but they are still Cichlids...

But at 8" it doesn't suprise me at all that they are trying to kill the 2" new guys that will eventually grow up to kill the Oscars...

I also don't think that adult Oscars and adult Trimacs will make good tankmates. I have a 7" female Trimac that must be kept alone as she attacks every potential tankmate she meets... I also have a pair of Trimacs (M 10", F 7") that have the same attitude but with a lot more juice behind it...

Sounds like I'm in for some fun.

it wasnt that your oscars were showing aggression toward the trimacs your oscars seen them as food and wanted to eat them. trimacs grow fairly quickly so do like the guy said and get a sponge filter 5-10 dollers and hook up a airpump get your tank cycled with the water from your other tank and feed heavy with 20 percent water changes every other day and you should be able to move them in a month or 2.

I just watched them carefully, they seem to be doing fine now and settled in hiding in the fake plants. My Oscars don't pay much attention to them anymore but still pick on them from time to time. They swim freely and explore their new home and even eating...I'm just worried about down the road when the Oscars are full grown as well as the Trimacs...I believe I got a female and a male Trimac.....I don't know which species to keep. I do 2x75% water changes a week on a regular basis...So the Trimacs should be growing quiet fast.

I'll have a aggression tank that's for sure....

It's a gang fight...Trimacs vs Oscars lol.

Question is will the Trimacs accept any tank mates when they are grown? Or are they only best kept alone...
