AGGRESSIVE CICHLID TANK WITH NO AGGRESSION

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I considered bare bottom. I currently have pool filter sand. I actually vacuumed out most of it so I just have a very very thin layer at the bottom now. So that it doesn't actually even cover the entire bottom of the tank. I have a few terra-cotta pots and the thin layer of pool filter sand and it works great!

My Jaguar moves the sand all over and there are a few bare areas that he has cleared. I actually like the look of the sand not entirely covering the bottom. It makes poo less obvious, but you don't have vacuuming to hassle with. I don't have to dig into the substrate any more.

This....^

He didn't say he was ignorant. He said his statement was. I agree though. Blanket statements like this just don't make sense to make. I also agree with the 3 reasons he gave that made it possible to get away with it.

He is also completely correct. If you forgot to prime and fish didn't die, you either have hardy as hell fish, your water may come from a well, or your water supply may be close enough they don't have to put much chlorine and chloramines in it.

Either way a statement like its okay not using primer is flat out reckless, since everyone has different water. I hope you don't give many advice like that.

I'm pretty sure I'm not ignorant, nor am I suggesting to not use prime. I'm saying I've had a slip or two like a normal fish keeper. But the fact is, if you drop a few cap fulls of prime in a 24 or so hours you likely avoid a big mishap. And lets get of your high horse regarding flaming any statement that may have not had all the clarity you would have liked ok? Thanks.

Actually your sounding like drama queen. Ive forgotten prime countless times. No harm. It crashed because you're under filtering an overstocked tank. Lol.

Do you know what chlorine does?

Do me a favor, go to the hardware store, get some chlorine and pour some into your tank and see what happens....

70% chlorinated water change with no prime will destroy all beneficial bacteria (and all other bacteria)....that is the reason it is added to town water!

The water was added, after a while I noticed my moving bed went shiny white from dirty brown color...

So I'm the time it took to add the water, then get prime into the tank, it had killed off the moving bed, and everything in the filters

Chlorine will not only kill your BB, but will also kill your fish quickly. The reason you can get away from adding town water without dechlor, and nothing happen can be: (1) You only do a small partial water change, and your organic loaded tank water neutralized the residual chlorine in the town water. Interestingly, the more dirty your tank water, the more chlorine demand will be exerted with nothing left to harm your fish. (2) You are located far away from the water treatment plant, so the residual chlorine in the town water has volatalized in the long transmission line. (3) You are lucky your town did not treat your water with chloamine, which binds the chlorine from volatilization loss.
