One suggestion you may find useful down the road if the convicts don't work is neons (well preferably cardinals since neons are so unhealthy). It's been done before, and it worked because the wolffish was too big to bother with them: https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/...as-aimara-and-self-bred-h-malabaricus.603193/
that’s probably what’s next - wanted something to eat the aimara left over / missed food, he’s not a fan of me going into his tank …. recently gets pissed when i drain the water for water changes and thrashes about …

the convict in tank breeding has not been super successful, think neighbors keep eating each other’s kids… i just siphoned 30 wigglers , going to put in 10g

Sorry to hear about the breeding failure.
With regards to cleaning up leftover food (I'm assuming you feed seafood, carnivore pellets, and things like that?), a huge school of cardinals (perhaps around 400 like in the link, if you can get that many for a good price) would do a very good job.
My cardinals attack flake food like tiny piranhas (which is pretty much what they are, lol), eating it very fast and eating enough to bulge their bellies a huge amount. So I could easily see a few hundred taking care of every last bite of leftover wolffish food in a good timeframe.

I am insanely jealous. I really miss my large tank and aimara. I hope at some point I can get back in the game.

dr exum dr exum Just thought you might want to know that less frequent and smaller feedings (say, 10-15 Massivore once a week instead of 20 a day) are advisable. Predatory species of fish will get obese and experience organ degeneration when fed large meals daily, as this is much more than what they eat in the wild.

thanks for tip - it’s probably less - i feed him when he shows interest- 10 pellets does not seem like a lot of food per week for a 20”’fish ??‍♂

i’ll look for serving guidance, but he does not appear overweight -

In the wild, eating once a week is a feast for a wolffish, given how often it (as with all predators) fails to catch what it hunts. So he'll show interest on a much more frequent basis than when he's hungry, since he still has that instinct in him of 1 meal/week being a feast.

And it is useful to keep in mind that Massivore has the calories of 1.8 goldfish/pellet, meaning a once a week feeding of 10-15 pellets would be the equivalent of 18-27 feeder goldfish weekly (or in other words, much more similar to wild feeding regimes). It's just more densely packed than goldfish, so it seems like a lot less.

How long has he been eating 20/day or so? Depending on the frequency he may not yet be overweight.
