This question seems to be coming up a lot lately so I've made a diagram that might help:

Did you see the part where I primed the clear overflow?

Go back and watch those videos. The check valve is there and there was no need for a ball valve. ...And fill your tank or you will drive yourself crazy.

The videos on youtube??

I read that whole DIY thread like 64 pages lol, and now I understand, there was a couple of the same questions that I had answered in the essay.

Thanks for putting up with my questions and answering the same ones AGAIN, the only thing holding me back is I want to paint it before installing or ill kick my own butt if I don't.

Wish me luck!

Just so you know I got it up and running for 24 hours. I made my own "air check valve" with a bubbler hose connector and a tube and I suck the water to the top and plug the hole.

I can unplug the system and replug in and it barly starts back up, leaving my worried but I think its the ACV rig I have. At first it would not restart untill I self primmed the ACV, then I put first aid waterproof tape around it and reinserted and it restarts better.

So thursday I will buy a ACV from petsmart and JB weld it in the correct way, and my work had some KRYLON, red plastic spray paint that I 5 finger stole, and when I buy the ACV I will paint it up and post some pics.

I think you're right about the ACV. The only reason an overflow would have trouble restarting is if there was air leaking into the top loop.

Bingo buddy. that was exactly the problem. I finally got a real ACV (not my temp. rig) and I J.B. welded it on and it is perfect. I can unplug, replug and it is perfect, 100% positive no problems when the power goes out!

RED KRYLON, ready for action.

The red paint is different. Did you read the label where it says to wipe down the pipe with acetone or pipe cleaner? No one ever does.

It makes a huge difference in the paint blistering.

By the way, the check valve will need to be replaced every now and then. J. B. Weld is gonna make things interesting when that day comes. Next time, just use silicone.

Yes, they are on YouTube but they are neatly compiled in the sticky section titled "DIY Overflow 101" or something like that.
